Notes |
- Jacob "Jake" Simoncelli , 83, of New Eagle, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 in his home. Born Jan. 26, 1924 in Library, he was the son of the late Albino and Teresa Tredici Simoncelli.
He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Monongahela. Jake owned and operated a Texaco service station in New Eagle for 41 years, retiring in 1985. Most borough residents remember the Simoncelli Service Station for their honest service and free popsicles.
During his working years, and especially after retirement, he was involved in many service organizations and social groups, including the American Legion, Hoot Owls Athletic Club, the New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department, Tri-Community Ambulance, Aaroas Haymakers 258 1/2, Meals on Wheels, the New Eagle Action Group, the Monongahela Food Share Program, the New Eagle A.A.R.P., the Transit Authority and the New Eagle Emergency Management Team.
Jake received the AARP's National Community Service award in 1988 and was honored as the 1998 Citizen of the Year by the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce. He took great pride in the action group's work at Tubby Hall Park. His last endeavor was the creation of the New Eagle Veterans Memorial.
He will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered as an avid gardener and a loyal Pens fan. He was truly devoted to his family. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Helen A. Panek Simoncelli ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. Simoncelli and wife Claudia, of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael A. and Anne Simoncelli of Greensburg; a brother, Paul Simoncelli , of Monongahela; his twin sister, Emma Pietroboni, of New Eagle; four grandchildren, Jessica, Amelia, Zachary and Leah Simoncelli ; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were six brothers, Peter, Joseph, Bruno, Marino, Orman and Samuel Marraccini.
Friends will be received at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela (724-258-6767), from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony Catholic Church on Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Feltz as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
Contributions may be made to: New Eagle Veterans Memorial Fund, 449 Second Ave., New Eagle, Pa. 15067. Full Military Honors will be recited at the cemetery by the Mon Valley Honor Guard.
